SAFER PRINTMAKING TECHNIQUES
Why Safer Printmaking?
Up until recently, the way printmaking had been practised, was not particularly conducive to one's health or the environment. However, thanks to the pioneering work of concerned printmakers like Friedhard Kiekeben, Cedric Green, Nik Semenoff, Henrik Boegh and many others, printmaking, is now a much healthier activity. Although, these 'safer' alternatives now exist alongside the traditional methods, there is no substitute for a well-equipped, well-designed workshop and, common sense. For instance, why continue to use white spirits (aka mineral oil / turpentine) when vegetable oil works just as well, minus the toxic fumes?
