DEKKLE INTAGLIO ART HOLIDAY IN AUSTRIA
Kunstdruck are pleased to announce a unique art holiday course in intaglio to be jointly run with David Borrington MA RCA from Dekkle Printmaking Studios in England.
David, who has put our facilities in Dietersdorf, Lower Austria, to the test on several occasions before, believes our rural location, surrounded by woods, fields and gentle hills will be both relaxing and inspiring with particular appeal to landscape artists.
The course, which places a strong emphasis on drawing, provides beginners and advanced students with comprehensive instruction on the intaglio processes including etching and drypoint, to the use of hard and soft grounds, aquatint, sugarlift and more. For etching, we’ll use zinc plates in fast-acting copper sulphate solution because of its immediacy and flexibility.
Taking place in a well-equipped studio workshop, we're located less than 20 miles from Vienna, providing the perfect opportunity to combine printmaking with sightseeing locally, regionally and in Vienna itself. The day trip to Vienna offers the chance to take in cultural highlights such as Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace and the Secession Museum (home to Gustav Klimt's works). In the other direction, a trip to the UNESCO designated Wachau Valley and Dürnstein Castle is possible via a Danube river cruise (departs Sundays only). This region is also well known for wine and apricot schnapps!
The Intaglio Art Holiday costs £670 to £900 pp. Prices are subject to group numbers and individual choice of hotel/B&B class. We do not mark up on accommodation costs.
What's included:
• one week duration
• small group number (maximum of 8 students)
• one tutor per group of four students
• pick up from and to Vienna Airport
• 4 day tutored course in the intaglio studio
• local walking and sketching during workshop days
• 1 day accompanied sightseeing in Vienna (excl. entrance fees & meals)
• 1 day accompanied sightseeing in Dürnstein (Wachau Valley). Travel by cruise ship (dependant on shipping line dates), train or car (excl. entrance fees & meals)
• 7 nights hotel or B&B accommodation with transfers to and from the studio
• tea, coffee, juices, simple lunch on course days
What's not included:
• flights to and from Vienna. (Easyjet and Aer Lingus offer budget-priced direct flights from Gatwick to Vienna airports, typically costing £70 to £150 return)
• personal travel, cancellation & medical insurance (recommended)
• meals & entrance fees on the two daytrips are not included
• evening meals. Tulln (hotel/B&B location) offers a range affordable options
