DEKKLE INTAGLIO WORKSHOPS IN AUSTRIA
Starting May 2010, we're offering 4-day intensive intaglio workshops to be jointly tutored with David Borrington MA RCA. The workshops take place over 8 days, allowing participants plenty of time for sightseeing.
Location David, who has previously put our workshop facilities in Dietersdorf, Lower Austria, to the test, believes our rural location, surrounded by woods, fields and gentle hills will be both relaxing and inspiring with particular appeal to landscape artists.
Workshop Content The course, which places a strong emphasis on drawing, provides beginners and advanced students with comprehensive instruction on the intaglio processes including etching and drypoint, to the use of hard and soft grounds, aquatint, sugarlift and more. For etching, we’ll use zinc plates in fast-acting copper sulphate solution because of its immediacy and flexibility. More on content
Sightseeing Possibilities As the workshop is less than 20 miles to Vienna, you have the perfect opportunity to combine printmaking with sightseeing locally, regionally and in Vienna itself. Apart from great coffee and cakes, Vienna's cultural highlights include Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace and the Secession Museum. In the opposite direction, a trip to the World Heritage Wachau Valley and the walled city of Dürnstein on the Danube is a must.
Travel & Accommodation You'll naturally want to know how to get to us, where to stay, how to get around and what to see. Although accommodation and travel costs are not included in the price, we are happy to help you make suitable arangements.

Booking
Places are limited to a maximum of 8, so please write with enquiries or to register interest by email (see below), stating preferred workshop week. To secure your place, we require a deposit of £75 (non-refundable in the event of cancellation).
Sightseeing Opportunities
Saturday & Sunday
As a free service, the tutors will accompany workshop attendees to Vienna on Saturday and Dürnstein on Sunday. This is to help you get the most out of your limited time sightseeing but participation is strictly at your own risk and expense; participants are responsible for their own insurance, entrance fees, transport, meal costs, etc. To give you an idea of expected costs, a return rail ticket from Tulln (our nearest town) to Vienna costs around € 10.40 while a Vienna travelcard costs about € 3.80.
